23. ASCHOTANAM - ANJANA VIDHI- अश्चोतन – अञ्जन विधि – eye drops – eye salve therapy
A. aschotanam = application of liquid drug in the form of drops in the eyes.
INDICATION
1. सर्वं अक्षि रोगाणां आदो -in all eye disease before the manifestation of disease
2. रुक् -pain
3.तोद
4.कण्डु -itching
5.घर्ष -friction
6. अश्रु दाह -burning sensation during lacrimation
7.राग -redness

1. वातम् - उष्णं / hot

आश्चोतनं विधि/ procedure
· in a place devoid of breeze
· lie on a cot
· patients eye opened with left hand of the physician
· on the right hand
a. hold the medicine dispenser( sea shell /शुक्त or wick / पिचु वर्ति
b. distance- just 2 angulas above the inner angle / inner canthus of the eye
dosage - 10 - 12 drops
AFTERWARDS PROCEDURE
1. clean the eyes with soft clothes
2. mild fomentation given with a cloth piece rinsed in warm water in disorders of kapha and vata

प्रातः सायं च तच्छान्त्यै व्यभ्रेअर्कैअतो अन्जयेत्सदा

if done , it will lead to diseases of the eyes

निष्पीडनं च वर्त्मभ्यां क्षालनं वा समाचरेत्
